TOP STORY
What you missed at International Charter Expo 2024
The International Charter Expo (ICE) 2024 marked a milestone, with the Croatian B2B yacht charter trade show hosting its first-ever edition in the Netherlands. Held from 13 to 15 November at the EXPO Greater Amsterdam convention centre, the event attracted approximately 1,500 industry professionals from over 600 companies representing more than 50 countries.
The attendees included a diverse mix of central agents, fleet operators, brokers, travel agencies, suppliers, and shipyards, highlighting ICE’s role as a global gathering point for the charter industry. “To me, ICE really showcases the diversity of parties within the charter sector – brokers, marine insurance providers, inflatables manufacturers, skippers, and more – all under one roof,” shared Daniel, Sales Manager at YachtEye.

ICE 2024 presented an impressive array of crewed, luxury, and bareboat charters across Europe, Asia, and South America, illustrating the breadth of the global fleet. The 271 vessels represented ranged from cruise ships and superyachts to wooden ketches, catamarans, and gulets. Vessel lengths averaged 26.99 metres, with the fleet spanning the 14.2-metre sailboat Pearl from Sail Lanka Charter to the 53-metre custom-built Bellezza, available for charter through the Slovenian company Goolets.
“We’re thrilled to see ICE in the Netherlands this year,” said Jon Arko Jerman, a yacht charter broker with Goolets. “It’s been an exceptional season for us in Croatia, and the popularity of the Adriatic as a charter destination is growing, particularly with American clients.” He attributes this interest to the region’s natural beauty, favourable charter regulations allowing higher guest capacities, and competitive pricing. “Many clients who experience the Adriatic often move on to Turkey for similar advantages, with the appeal of new scenery,” he added.

Greece also had a strong presence at ICE, with 121 Greek companies attending, including several fleet operators underlining its status as a top charter destination. Barbara Gabriel, CEO of FX Yachting, and Anna Ramfou, Charter Manager at Vernicos Yachts, noted the rise of multihulls in the fleet. “Catamarans offer more deck space, which is especially desirable in smaller lengths,” said Ramfou. “But we’re also seeing demand for larger multihulls, which is a trend we’re excited about as it continues to grow.”
ICE Project Manager Antonija Hajman Čagalj noted growing interest in charters in exotic destinations such as the Galápagos, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Seychelles, Brazil, and Asia. “Many new and interesting yacht charter companies from exotic destinations in Asia and also the Netherlands came as first-timers. As ICE relocated to Amsterdam, there was a significant increase in companies from Greece, Italy, and Turkey too,” he highlighted.
ICE 2024
“Many brokers and agencies have clients who have seen the typical and popular destinations such as Greece, Croatia, and Turkey, and are now looking for something new. We have also noticed that there have been many high last-minute discounts for the 2024 season, and this was a very common topic discussed at meetings between partners at ICE ’24 this year,” he stated.
“Our industry needs an efficient show that is focused purely on networking. I am extremely happy to see that ICE is being recognised as the global meeting point of the yacht charter industry, and I cannot wait to see how ICE ’25 will turn out,” concluded Čagalj. Next year, ICE will once again take place at the EXPO Greater Amsterdam from 12 to 14 November 2025.
