TOP STORY
Why are remote and exotic yacht charter destinations becoming more popular?

It is no accident that classic yachting hotspots and patterns – European summer in Italy, Greece or the South of France, and wintering in the Caribbean’s St Barths or St Maarten – have their elite status, boasting a combination of beautiful views, luxury and advanced yachting facilities that ensure chartering with ease. ☀️

But recent years have seen a rise in the remote yacht charter. Experts note increasing client interest in chartering vessels in the globe’s most remote corners.

Legendary explorer yachts, such as Lürssen’s 126m Octopus, have traversed to icy Antarctica, while more and more clients see the appeal of exploring the South Pacific’s fruitful offerings in destinations like French Polynesia.

What is the appeal of such far-flung charter locations?
  1. Break away from the crowds 🐚

Chartering a yacht in a remote destination allows guests to get away from the crowds of more typical yachting spots.

In high season, places like the Mediterranean, the Bahamas and the Caribbean can become overcrowded, meaning restaurants, beach clubs and bars are quickly booked up, making secluded anchorages and beaches harder to find.

Chartering in off-the-beaten-track yachting destinations, such as Antarctica, French Polynesia, Oman, and Scandinavia, guarantees guests more space and peace during their trip.

  1. Discover unique offerings 🏔

To encounter something special, sometimes it is essential to think outside the box. Not every superyacht adventure involves sipping cold beverages under palm trees and feeling golden sand between your toes.

For some, superyachts are the perfect vessels from which to explore the earth’s most remote and undisturbed corners.

To witness something truly special, such as icebergs and penguins in Antarctica, bears and whales in Alaska, Komodo dragons in Indonesia and the wondrous Norwegian fjords, clients are trusting more and more in remote yacht charters. What better way to explore the earth’s most unique offerings from a luxury yacht?

  1. Embark on adventure

Travelling to remote and unique destinations is the perfect option for adventure seekers. From encounters with rare animals to breathtaking landscapes and phenomena, yachts allow guests to get up close to some truly magical sights.

Aside from the usual water sports and diving, guests chartering in unique destinations can embark on adventurous pursuits such as mountain climbing, whale watching, heli-skiing, spearfishing and surfing.

🇲🇹 Malta has lowered VAT for short-term yacht charters. The standard VAT in Malta is 18%, but the country is lowering its VAT rate to 12% in certain instances.

The new ruling applies to short-term yacht charters that start in Malta. The new rate took effect on 1 January 2024, and it will be interesting to see if this VAT reduction impacts how many short-term yacht charters take place in Malta this summer.
