Behind the design of one of the most famous charter yachts

One of the most well-known charter yachts on the market is Silver Fox, exclusively for charter with Edmiston. We saw her transform into the ‘Alo Yacht’ earlier this summer, as she cruises along the Mediterranean coastline. This issue of the Yacht Charter Market, we step inside the design of the 72m Sanlorenzo, and speak with her designers, Francesco Paszkowski and Bernardo Zuccon.

Silver Fox, designed to embody the elegance, restraint and purity of living life at sea, is the first hull of Sanlorenzo’s 74Steel series. The 72-metre superyacht marks the yard’s most ambitious project yet, symbolising a new pinnacle in the Sanlorenzo steel range. The yacht is managed by Edmiston and will be making her debut at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show, where she will co-exhibited by the brokerage and her builder and is one of the cover stars of Issue 58.

For Bernado Zuccon, owner and chief architect of Zuccon International Project, Silver Fox “marks a decisive change of scale in floating architecture. The exterior design embraces  a dimension never before explored by the shipyard.” Each hull in the 74Steel series features a different level of customisation, including varied interiors, layouts and bow configurations. “Certain features - such as the verticality of the bow, the organisation of the decks or specific functional solutions - can be developed to create an exterior design that is genuinely tailored to each client.”

Zuccon shares how “the ambition was never simply to design a larger yacht, but to rethink the yacht as an architectural organism.” Adding that  “the yacht had to offer owners extensive possibilities for personalisation: every decision had to contribute to a coherent architectural composition, where aesthetics, functionality and engineering became part of the same design language.”

A look inside Silver Fox

Responsible for the unique, refined yet modern interiors of Silver Fox is Francesco Paszkowski, from Francesco Paszkowski Design, with support from Margherita Casprini for the interior decor. Designed for a repeat client who desired a welcoming atmosphere with special attention to details, Francesco notes how the studio’s approach “was to focus on stylistic consistency throughout the various spaces.“

“My design language gave rise to a series of forms, characterised by flowing curves that evolve into straight lines, before returning to curved geometries” Francesco shares. “The entire project presented numerous challenges, both in terms of material selection and in translating the architectural layout into reality,” notes Francesco. Through the use of detailed décor, the design studio created a cohesive style, while still ensuring each area onboard has its own identity. “It was designed to differentiate the various spaces I had created architecturally.” 

Wood panelling has been a key theme in the yacht’s décor, and ties the various spaces together. “The same timber species have been used throughout the yacht, but its interpretation differs through the use of both smooth and three-dimensional panels,” Margherita notes.

Francesco shares how “curvilinear architectural partitions also serve to incorporate and frame furnishing and functional areas,” something that is especially evident on the owner’s deck, spanning a surface area of 300-square-metres. The private deck includes a forward-facing suite, where the curvilinear décor provides a sense of separation for the various spaces, while simultaneously ensuring a sense of continuity: A partition separating the owner’s study from the private lounge and frame furnishings surrounding the television. A stand-out piece of décor sits in one of the owner’s two spa-inspired bathrooms: a half-height wall with a flowing curved profile, clad in large-scale mosaic tiles reminiscent of feathers, embraces the bathtub positioned beside a large window. Furthermore, the owner’s deck includes an expansive walk-in wardrobe and a private terrace forward featuring a hot tub.

The yacht also features five guest staterooms, able to accommodate up to ten guests and each have their own dedicated colour palette, reflected in the artwork and marble selected for the en suite. The full-beam VIP stateroom includes sliding panels that allow access to a private lounge. One of the staterooms is a convertible four-bunk designed as a kid's room, and features a convertible sofa bed.

A central corridor connects each stateroom to the main saloon, where guests can enjoy a relaxed lounge setting, including the ideal set-up for an evening cinema experience, with a large-format screen and bespoke seating. The dining area seats up to 14 guests and is divided from the saloon by a sleek bar unit. Sliding glass doors open up to let in a gentle sea breeze.  

Much of the furnishings onboard are custom-designed by the studio, featuring faceted geometric forms with enhanced platinum- and gold- finished lacquers and marble inserts. Another stand-out feature is her interior staircase: “the enclosure, designed to evoke a wave, is backlit to create the effect of a luminous wall,” Margherita points out, “the treads were conceived as stone boxes incorporating an upholstered, treated nubuck ‘L-shaped’ insert that provides a non-slip surface, enhanced tactile comfort and sound attenuation.”

Silver Fox’s lower deck houses a professional galley with a spacious crew dinette opposite. The forward section sees 11 crew cabins, able to accommodate up to 21 crew, while a 12th cabin can double as a hospital berth if required. Two dedicated crew staircases also connect the lower deck to the bridge deck, ensuring smooth, efficient and discreet service throughout the yacht. 

Exterior excellence

Every detail of Silver Fox has been carefully considered, with her decks arranged to ensure both connection and seclusion, with thoughtfully planned spaces that adapt effortlessly to guests’ rhythms. Her sundeck features a firepit and a hot tub, while an alfresco dining area and a skylounge are located on the bridge deck. Located on the aft deck is the pool, which features a glass bottom that illuminates the beach club below.

Francesco devoted particular attention to the beach area, noting it is “perhaps my favourite spot onboard.” The experience begins with the descent via two staircases, enhanced by the décor scheme through the use of Sahara Noir marble, teak and travertine. The beach club is part of the yacht’s larger wellness area, spanning close to 290-square-metres with the transom and side platforms deployed. The space is flooded with natural light thanks to the glazed ceiling of the swimming pool located on the main deck. Francesco adds how “the textile palette by Margherita favours colours that seamlessly unite the interior with the surrounding water, whether sea or pool, creating an uninterrupted visual connection.

Besides the beach club, the wellness area also includes a gym, massage room, sauna and hammam. The hammam combines gold and black mosaics with travertine, while the massage room features a hand-embroidered decorative silk wallcovering protected behind glass: “as though it were a work of art”, notes Margherita.  Accompanying the wellness space are a dedicated relaxation area and a hydroponic cultivation room - a controlled indoor space that grows plants using a soilless method.

No detail was omitted in the designing of the 74Steel: two tender garages sit amidships, and can be accessed from both the crew quarters and the engine room. The garages house a 10-metre Pascoe limousine tender, a crew tender and a Pascoe beach lander RIB, as well as a Ski Nautique boat. The toy box can also be found in the garages and include Seabobs, Fliteboards, Sea-Doos, custom inflatable kayaks, SUPs, and an inflatable tower with slide and climbing wall, ensuring guests are endlessly entertained.

Silver Fox is exclusively for charter with Edmiston, and was designed with charter in mind. Edmiston broker Alex Busher, who was involved since the beginning of the project, notes how “from the very first design discussions, through delivery, the charter program was considered.” 

Silver Fox is not only the largest superyacht ever built by Sanlorenzo, but also a milestone in the Italian yard’s steel and aluminium range. Her distinct profile, sinuous forms and vertical bow make her a stand-out yacht as she cruises the Western Mediterranean during her debut season.

Is this the 85m charter yacht that really has it all?

Few yachts offer quite the range of experiences found aboard 278’ (85m) Victorious. From a private deck and Jacuzzi in the morning to a 2,153 soft (200sqm) beach club at sea level, every part of the yacht is designed around how you want to spend your time.

The beach club is the natural hub for days on the water, with multiple sea terraces, a pool and direct access to an extensive collection of toys, including Jet Skis, Seabobs and Fliteboards. For a slower pace, there is a hammam, beauty salon, massage area and a fully equipped gym overlooking the sea.

There is just as much to discover above deck. Younger guests have their own dedicated playroom, while a tiered private cinema offers an easy escape when it’s time to switch off. The panoramic observation lounge, complete with baby grand piano, provides another setting for relaxed afternoons and evenings.

When it comes to dining, the winter garden creates a spectacular setting for long lunches and dinners, with space for up to 16 guests around the table and uninterrupted views of the Mediterranean.

Later, the wine and cigar club offers a more intimate setting, with a cellar, humidor, fireplace and private terrace. And with 24 crew on hand throughout the charter, everything is taken care of.

On Victorious, the challenge may simply be deciding what to do first.
