7 Simple ways for yacht crew to improve the charter experience

Yacht charters are all about having happy guests and smooth crew operations. Charter guests who are having a great experience are more likely to leave a generous tip and consider returning in the future. The key to achieving this lies in clear communication and flawless teamwork among the crew.

As crews continue to raise the bar in personal service and onboard standards, guest expectations have followed suit. To help meet these growing demands, here are 7 ways crew can improve the guests charter experience.

1. Live updated itinerary

With YachtEye, guests can explore the itinerary and learn about the destinations before or during their trip, building excitement for their journey. Since plans can always change, YachtEye allows for easy updates with just a few clicks.

2. Detailed Guest Schedule

Keeping both guests and crew informed of the daily schedule ensures smooth operations and avoids any confusion.

When guests see the schedule at the start of the day, they know exactly which activities are planned, when to be ready for lunch, any dress code requirements and what’s on the menu—without having to rely on the principal guest or crew for updates.

Displaying the guest schedule in the crew mess keeps all crew members aware of the day’s plans, allowing them to coordinate their tasks and departments more effectively.

3. All menus at your fingertips

Ordering onboard often involves multiple steps: requesting, waiting for, reviewing a menu and then placing an order. With the YachtEye app, guests can skip these steps and conveniently browse wellness, cocktail, and wine menus right from the sun deck on their phone or iPad. This not only saves valuable time for the crew, but also provides a faster and more seamless experience for guests.

4. Get to know the crew

Boarding a yacht and meeting the crew can be a lot to take in, especially when trying to remember names. YachtEye makes this easier by showcasing all crew members in one place. Guests can quickly check crew names before ordering a cocktail or learn more about each member through their profile.

For administrative users, managing crew visibility is a breeze. Just click a button to set crew members as ‘Onboard’ or ‘On leave’ based on their current status. This eliminates the need for printing and distributing updates in each guest folder.

5.     Easy access to Tenders & Toys

With YachtEye, guests can explore all the boat’s toys without the need to display everything or give tours of the tender garage. The crew can add important details like setup times, license requirements, and country-specific restrictions. This helps the guests plan their activities smoothly without having to seek additional information.

Guests can browse the options at their own pace, ask a crewmember to set up their preferred toys and head to the beach club whenever they’re ready.

6. Display the trips’ pictures

After a full day of activities, it's great to show guests a recap of their adventures. With YachtEye, you can showcase a gallery of the day's highlights on the TV during dinner or turn-down service, helping them relive and remember the fantastic day. When the trip ends, they’ll have a wonderful collection of memories to look back on.

7.     Identify yachts around you

When guests are onboard a yacht, they often wonder about the yachts around them. Instead of asking the crew, they can easily identify nearby yachts using YachtEye. Just open the Yacht Radar feature, click on any yacht, and instantly access its full specifications and photos.

DESTINATION SPOTLIGHT

Travel Inspiration: Costa Rica

Costa Rica, known for its dedication to sustainability and eco-tourism, has become a premier superyacht charter destination. Nestled between the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea, this Central American nation offers rich biodiversity, stunning coastlines, and luxury experiences. Its secluded beaches, world-class marinas, and vibrant coastal towns create a perfect blend for guests looking to explore nature’s beauty in style.

Coastlines and rich biodiversity

Costa Rica’s two coastlines—the Pacific and Caribbean—each provide unique experiences. The Pacific coast is a superyacht hotspot, home to some of Central America's best marinas. Marina Papagayo in Guanacaste offers five-star amenities and access to beautiful beaches, while Marina Pez Vela in Quepos is ideal for guests looking to explore Manuel Antonio National Park or indulge in world-class sportfishing.

The Nicoya Peninsula, with its natural beauty and upscale offerings, is another key destination. Towns like Tamarindo and Santa Teresa boast pristine beaches and calm waters perfect for snorkelling, diving, and paddleboarding. For those seeking a more remote experience, the Osa Peninsula and Golfo Dulce offer incredible wildlife encounters in untouched landscapes, where dolphins, sea turtles, and humpback whales are often seen.

Costa Rica’s waters are also teeming with marine life, making it a paradise for snorkelling and diving enthusiasts. The Pacific coast, particularly near the Nicoya and Osa Peninsulas, offers excellent underwater exploration. Further afield, Cocos Island, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is renowned for its hammerhead sharks, rays, and diverse marine life, making it a top diving spot.

On the Caribbean side, guests enjoy a quieter, more laid-back experience. The province of Limón features remote beaches, while Tortuguero National Park provides the perfect opportunity to observe nesting sea turtles. On land, Costa Rica’s national parks are home to a wide variety of wildlife. In Manuel Antonio and Corcovado National Parks, guests can encounter everything from howler monkeys and sloths to toucans and jaguars, providing an exciting complement to marine adventures.

Day trips for all preferences

Costa Rica offers a range of day trips for superyacht guests. One popular option is the Monteverde Cloud Forest, where visitors can walk along suspension bridges or take a thrilling zip-line ride through the misty treetops. This serene setting offers a cool escape from the coastal heat.

Volcano in Costa Rica

For those seeking relaxation, a visit to the Arenal Volcano is ideal. The surrounding region is known for its dramatic landscapes, lush rainforests, and natural hot springs. Guests can enjoy guided hikes, visit the stunning La Fortuna waterfall, or relax in thermal pools.

Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula is also recognised as one of the world’s Blue Zones, offering top-tier wellness retreats. Here, visitors can enjoy yoga and meditation sessions, along with spa treatments using local ingredients like volcanic clay and coffee scrubs.

A rich culture to discover

Costa Rica’s vibrant culture provides rich opportunities for guests to immerse themselves in local traditions. Traditional dance and music performances, particularly featuring the marimba, are common in towns like San José and Liberia, especially during local festivals.

Dancing in Limón, Costa Rica

For a unique souvenir, Costa Rican artisans produce beautiful handmade crafts. The colourful, hand-painted carretas (ox carts) are iconic and can be found in markets throughout the country. Guests can also visit workshops in Sarchí to watch artisans at work or participate in crafting their own piece of Costa Rican culture.

Colón, or Ciudad Colón, in San José province

Costa Rican cuisine highlights fresh, local ingredients, with gallo pinto—a dish of rice and beans—being a national favourite, typically served for breakfast. Along the coast, seafood dominates, with ceviche—fresh fish marinated in lime juice—being a must-try.

Dining ashore is another highlight. In Tamarindo, Pangas Beach Club provides an upscale dining experience right on the sand, showcasing local seafood and tropical flavours. Meanwhile, Gabriella’s in Quepos offers gourmet meals with stunning views over the marina, specialising in locally caught fish and international cuisine.

Adventure and serenity combined

Costa Rica enjoys a tropical climate with two distinct seasons. The dry season, from December to April, is the high season for yachting, featuring warm, sunny weather and calm seas. The low season, from May to November, brings more rain, particularly on the Pacific side, though this period offers lush landscapes and fewer crowds.

Surfin in Puntarenas, Provincia de Puntarenas

Costa Rica’s diverse landscapes, from its rich marine life to its thriving rainforests, make it a dream destination for superyacht charters. Whether guests are seeking adventure through snorkelling, diving, or hiking, or simply wish to unwind on a secluded beach or indulge in a luxurious wellness retreat, Costa Rica delivers a diverse and unforgettable yachting experience.
